Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I tried to cancel our subscription to the Daily Prophet since most of what I read there anyway is usually something I've already heard before picking it up, but James wouldn't let me. He said we need our subscription and that it was un-wizard-otic not to subscribe to it, whatever that's supposed to mean. So, instead, I've subscribed to the Quibbler. It's a new paper, I think, and from the looks of it, it's absolutely ridiculous which means I love it. It's full of stories that make absolutely no sense and make me laugh, so it's a perfect paper to have lying around in the living room.

Private to Friends Only
Is anyone up to going out to dinner this Friday? I'm tired of cooking and we need to have some fun together before James goes away.

I don't mind the Prophet so much. The crossword puzzle at least keeps me frustrated occupied for a bit each day.

[Same Hex]
I'd love to go to dinner!

Occupied? I throw it out within half an hour usually because it's so frustrating.

[Same Hex]
Now to figure out where we should go.

Well, yes- that's basically what I meant.

Jamie and I aren't particularly picky, I don't think. Just adults, though? I'm sure I can get his parents to watch Oliver.

Just adults. I wouldn't mind seeing Oliver, but with all those invited, I'm not sure it'd be best for him.

This might be a dumb question, but are there still plans for dinner tonight? People are welcome to come here, if they maybe might not want to go out somewhere public. I just... wasn't sure, after yesterday.

The mere fact that you are reading that garbage goes to show that I'm not keeping you busy enough.

I will now start formulating ways of making you not notice I've thrown the latest copy out.

And we can't stay without the Prophet! I know it's usually Ministry gibberish, but at least it's relevant gibberish! Besides, you were in one of your fits, I couldn't let you act in that state.

Un-wizard-otic...Duh!

I was not having any sort of fit. Honestly, where do you come up with this stuff? Besides, you're keeping me plenty busy. I just need something lighthearted to read that doesn't involve people being killed or kidnapped.

You threw it out? Then I guess I get to go buy a new one.

Yes you were! One of your I-CAN'T-STAND-ANY-MORE-BAD-NEWS fits. I know you think you're being conversational, but it's a little scary! This is Voldemort's world, darling (or at least, he thinks it's his, poor hag), bad news sort of comes with the package of many joys!

I could die in the next Order mission and you are wasting your precious time with moi reading the Quibbler?

Spend more money on that crap? The same edition?? But honey, what about the kids? We need to feed them! Spending away like that won't pay for Hogwarts.

Oh, and you can stand more and more, week after week?

Don't you dare joke about that, James. That's not even funny.

We're not exactly desolate and you never seem to mind if I frivolously spend money on something like a new dress or something for you. Besides, we haven't got any kids yet!

You know I can't. But there are ways of dealing with this, Lils....I suppose reading the Quibbler is one of them.

I knew you'd say that! I was only joking, love. I think that irish coffee left me with a morbid sense of humor. That coffee and the other three...

That's because I love spoiling you. And you have exellent taste for those dresses.

You know I was joking right? Buy whatever you like!

Reading the Quibbler is one of them. Going to my mum's tomorrow morning is another. Do you want to come along? I know she'd be glad to see you. Petunia and Vernon might be there, but they usually avoid us like the plague so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Regardless if it was a joke, it still wasn't funny or the least bit amusing. I'm really nervous about this mission, James, and I don't know exactly why. Something just feels off.

Of course I'll come. I adore your mother. And I detest your sister brother in law. But that's just another reason for me to be there, I'm not leaving you alone with them.

I'm sorry? I guess it was a sick attempt to lighten the mood? And don't be worried - I already promised I'd be coming back, didn't I?

Maybe not entirely in one piece, but...No jokes? Okay. Do you want me to promise again?

I'm not overly fond of Vernon either, but he is family so there's no way around seeing him every once in awhile. Just bite your tongue and we'll have a good laugh about all the ridiculous things he says and does afterwards.

No, there's no reason to promise again and you can lighten up the mood by watching the telly with me tonight.

He has a go at you. Especially when I'm not there. Don't think I don't notice. And he'll pay for it if he does, you know. Just not in front of your mother, but he will.

Will there be fudge?

Don't get upset. You know most the things that come out of his mouth are rubbish anyway. Besides, he's scared of us as it is, there's no need to make it worse.

Sure, why not. I'll make some and it'll be ready by the time you get home.

I do. He disrespects you. And I don't have to take that lying down. I don't think I've ever taken anything lying down. Please don't ask me to do it for someone who resembles a pig more than a human.

I love you.

You know what will happen if either of us threaten him. He'll start shouting and then Petunia will start shouting, and all this will put an even bigger strain on my mum. I'd rather not put her through that right now.

I love you as well.

I'm not letting her control me! And don't treat me like a child who's gotten her hand caught in the cookie jar by saying you're disappointed in me. Is it so much to ask that things remain civil between the four of us? For my mum's sake?

She's your sister. I'd love her if only for your sake. But in case you haven't noticed, she's not too big on me. I'm not the one who started this. I will never be the one to start anything.

Will she keep things civil tomorrow, Lils? Or are you once again going to buy her crap? And ask me to do the same.

Petunia's not big on anyone that she doesn't deem as "normal" and hasn't since we were kids. But she is my sister, James, and no matter how many times she might put me - us down, I still want us to be as close as we can.

Please try to understand.

Re: James/Lily

It's not up to her to decide who is normal and who isn't! Personally, I think she is the most boring person I've ever met, and I can't believe she's even remotely related to you. That's normal?

As for that husband of hers, if not fitting into a chair and having revolting table manners makes you normal, then I guess I'm glad to be...what does she call me? Freak, right.

You two aren't close and you know it, Lils. And none of it is your fault. Stop letting her make you feel terrible. Stand up for yourself! You've earned that right. You've been crying over her since the day I met you.

I have tried. But it's just that I love you...so it's a little hard. Sorry.

I know it's not up to her, James, it's just the convoluted view she has on everything! She's always been like that for as long as I can remember. Vernon is - well, there's no excuse for him, but he is her husband unfortunately, even though I think she could have done better.

We might not be close, but we're still sisters. And I believe she still cares, to an extent, she's just not shown it for awhile that she's forgotten how to.

Not up to her? You must be joking Lily! She can't stand you being around her! And you know why? Because you are radiant and smart and funny and she's...well, her. The only thing she could have going for herself is being pleasent - and she fails at that too. She can't be happy for you, she can't bring herself to be nice to you. And you're the sweetest, most lovable person there is. That officially makes Petunia a bad person. DON'T ask me to like her.

She wants to be like that, she prides herself in being like that.

I am now officially annoyed at this conversation.

But you love me oh so much.

I'll take one bat-bogey hex with a side of the full body bind and, maybe a smidge of if Conjunctivitus Curse if I go too far.

Or maybe I'll just shut up. That actually doesn't sound too pleasent. Nevermind. I'll be good, Prongsaboo.
